A borough council watchdog has criticised police over parking enforcement in Shrewsbury claiming motorists are getting away with parking illegally on pavements.
Members of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council’s overview committee are now urging the authority’s executive to formally note their “dissatisfaction” with the way police have addressed the issue and their alleged reluctance to intervene.
But police say parking enforcement is no longer their responsibility and is now down to ParkRight - a partnership which includes the borough council - to control.
Cabinet members are being asked to consider the matter next week as well as back a proposal to identify a number of residents parking schemes in the town with a view to selecting one for a trial.
