Agency to turn lights off on road

New traffic lights on a busy Shropshire roundabout were to be switched off today for the installation of safety equipment.

Highways Agency improvements to ease congestion and improve safety at the A5/A49 Bayleys Roundabout, which started in January, are almost complete.

A spokeswoman for the Agency said: “It will be necessary to switch off the recently installed traffic signals today from 6.30pm to 9.30pm to install essential safety equipment.

“While the traffic signals are temporarily switched off, the junction will function as a conventional roundabout, as before.”

The Highways Agency advises drivers to obey all signs and to take extra care when driving near roadworks.

The work included the creation of a new layby, a high-friction surface on the carriageway and a number of road markings.

It has also seen traffic signals provided on the roundabout.
