Worker injures hand in machine

A teenager was taken to hospital after getting his hand stuck in machinery at a Broseley recycling yard today.

Staff at Oakley Arnold in Cockshutt Lane freed Lewis Hickman’s hand after emergency crews were called.

The teenager was taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital for treatment, but later returned to work.

Manager Roger Arnold said today Mr Hickman, aged 17, who operates a can recycling machine, had pinched his hand between a conveyor belt and a roller.

“He was working on a machine that was shut off,” he said.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Chris Kowalik said paramedics were called to the business along with fire and police.

“A 17-year-old male whose arm was caught in a machine suffered minor crush injuries to his right forearm,” he said.

“He was taken by ambulance to hospital.”
