Temperature set to fall

Thousands of people across Shropshire basked in sunshine as temperatures rocketed during the hottest weekend of the year.

But people were today warned to enjoy the warm weather over the next two days with temperatures set to drop later in the week.

Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner said temperatures had reached 25C (77F) in Shawbury yesterday.

Mr Warner said: “It was a fantastic weekend, but the trend is for it not to be as hot this week as it was over the weekend.

“The wind is coming in off the North Sea so it won’t be as warm. By Friday temperatures will have dropped to 16C (61F) and there could be some showers.”

The county weather expert warned people to enjoy the next 48 hours. Everyone should make the most of things over the next few days,” he said.

“There could be some cloud first thing tomorrow and Wednesday from the North Sea which the sun has to burn off.”

Many Shropshire residents left the county and headed for the coast as temperatures soared.

John Smallman, of Horsehay, Telford, headed to Llandudno for the weekend.

“The beach was packed yesterday after a cloudy day on Saturday,” he said.

“The traffic was very heavy last night as people headed back home. Let’s hope this is the start of a good summer.”
