Homes hit by power failure

More than 200 properties in Telford were hit by a power cut today. Central Networks, E.on’s electricity distribution firm for the Midlands, was alerted by people living in Leegomery that the power had gone off just before 10.30am.

Engineers were sent out on site and have been working to fix the fault at a sub-station in the area.

Power was restored to 103 homes by 2pm, but 125 remained without supplies.

Central Networks has blamed a low-voltage underground cable for the problems and said its engineers were working as quickly as possible to get the power back on. The properties affected are believed to be residential homes.

Deanna Mooney, Central Networks spokeswoman, said: “Supplies went off at 10.20am. It was originally affecting 228 customers. Of those, 125 were still off at 2pm.

“The problem was due to a low-voltage underground cable fault.

“We had engineers on site making repairs. Our main priority was to get our customers back on.”

She said the company offered its apologies to those affected.

In February, hundreds of homes and businesses in Telford were hit by three power cuts in less than a week.

Businesses on the Forge and Bridge retail parks were among those affected by the cuts.

The power loss hit nearly 2,000 people and was caused by trees falling on to an overhead line. Traders and householders said they felt frustrated after previous power cuts.
