Police investigating the death of a man found lying in a Shropshire road have today ruled out any suspicious circumstances.
Market Drayton has been a hive of police activity since the discovery shortly before 6am on Saturday.
A forensic search of the area was carried out and officers spoke with neighbours over the weekend in a bid to establish what happened.
A post mortem examination took place on Saturday and the matter is no longer being treated as suspicious.
The man’s body was found in Red Bank just after 5.45am on Saturday by a man walking to work.
Today, Detective Chief Inspector Jon Groves, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: “We believe the body of a man found in Market Drayton during the early hours of Saturday is that of a 25-year-old local man.
“The man’s family have been contacted, although formal identification has yet to take place.”
Mr Groves said a post mortem examination had been carried out by Home Office Pathologist Dr Eddie Tapp at Sandwell Hospital on Saturday night.
“As a result of the examination, any suspicious circumstances have been ruled out,” he said.
“Further investigations are being carried out into the circumstances of the death and an inquest is likely to be opened later this week.
“The police would also like to thank the public in Market Drayton for the co-operation they have given in this matter.”
