A motorcyclist was killed and four other people - including an 11-year-old boy - were injured in a spate of road accidents in Shropshire and Mid Wales.

The 11-year-old boy was a pillion passenger on a bike being ridden by his father, which crashed between Craven Arms and Much Wenlock yesterday.

The father and son, from the West Midlands area, were airlifted to hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries following the smash on the B4368 just after noon.

The boy suffered “severe right leg trauma”. His father was treated for “severe multiple fractures to his legs”.

A female motorcyclist was also airlifted to hospital following a smash close to a pub popular with bikers just outside Bridgnorth. The rider was flown to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford after she collided with a car just after 2.45pm on Saturday on the A454 near the Swancote Country Club.

West Midlands Ambulance service received a 999 call and an ambulance, a rapid response vehicle and the County Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.

The motorcylist was treated at the scene for neck and back injuries before being taken to hospital by a helicopter from RAF Cosford. The car driver, a man, was also treated at the scene for multiple minor injuries.

A male rider was killed when a motorbike crashed on the A483 between Newtown and Dolfor yesterday, at about 10.50am yesterday. No other vehicles are thought to have been involved.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokeswoman said: “It is believed only one motorcycle was involved with the rider suffering fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
