Decker set for nostalgic concert

Carol DeckerSome of the biggest selling music artists of the 1980s will be coming to Shropshire this summer for an outdoor pop concert brimming with nostalgia.

But one of the stars is no stranger to the county - having lived in Shrewsbury for seven years and written her hit songs in a flat near the River Severn.

Carol Decker, of T’Pau, will join Rick Astley, Bananarama, Midge Ure, Heaven 17, Toyah and Nick Heyward for a three-hour Here and Now: Magic of the 1980s live show in Shrewsbury Quarry.

The event, on July 12, is part of the traditional summer weekend of music in the county town, and is expected to attract a crowd of about 6,000.

The Shropshire Star is the official media sponsor for the concert, which will end with a spectacular firework display.

Carol, who went to school in Wellington, and lived in the county for 20 years said she is looking forward to her return visit, and hopefully bringing her children with her.

“I have two small children, Scarlet is nine and Dylan is five. It would be nice to show them where I lived and where I wrote all my hit songs,” she said.

“I lived for seven years in the Pengwern Boat Club. I had a flat there on the top floor with Ron Rogers.

“It was happy days. We could make as much noise as we liked.”

The concert will see Carol bringing back the 80s tunes for the Shropshire crowds and she hopes it will be a good night.
