More than 1,000 questionnaires have been returned to Citizens Advice Shropshire in a survey of residents in communities where post offices are under threat.

CAS has been carrying out the survey since April when it was announced 28 Shropshire post officers could face the axe.
Jackie Jeffrey, operations manager for CAS, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the response to our survey.
“We have received more than 1,000 returned questionnaires. In particular, we had a high number of replies from Acton Burnell and Greenfields.
“While we accept that some closures are inevitable, the post office is an absolute lifeline in rural areas like ours. The key question now is how essential services will be provided to those who need them most.”
Janet Beach, social policy coordinator for CAS, who has led the campaign, said: “The fact that 50 per cent of the designated post offices in Shropshire are in the most rural part of the county, South Shropshire, suggests that the group of inhabitants in this area are significantly more adversely affected.”
Mohamed Shaheen, who run Greenfields Post Office, said: “The survey of CAS is an excellent result. It absolutely proves why Greenfields should stay open.”
The results of the survey have now been collated and fed back into the post office consultation process.
