Homes get food rubbish caddies

Free compost caddies used for collecting food waste are now being delivered to people in Welshpool.

Over the coming weeks, each household will receive a five-litre kitchen caddy, a 22-litre street caddy, a roll of liners for the small one and a leaflet explaining what can and cannot be put into them.

Food waste from the kitchen is a valuable resource which can be turned into compost, rather than sent to landfill sites where it produces methane.

The scheme will collect all biodegradable food waste, including meat and cooked which food should not be put on compost heaps.

The collection service will be provided by Cwm Harry Land Trust, in partnership with Powys County Council.
