Shrewsbury Girls High School triumphed at a county awards ceremony to find the best young enterprise company of the year.
The team, called Mooch, picked up the top honours at a gala dinner attended by more than 100 students, teachers and business representatives at the Park Inn Hotel in Telford.
Mooch managing director Francesca Baguley said the team was delighted to have picked up the award for best overall company in the Shropshire Young Enterprise scheme.
Mooch, a company a team of 11 set up selling customised accessories, beat off competition from companies set up by students from schools and colleges across the county.
Zest, a boys team from the Priory School whose company specialised in making jam, scooped their best ever placing when they were named as runner-up, and You-nited, from The Phoenix School in Dawley picked up a third place.
Shrewsbury Girls High School link teacher Di Higgs congratulated the pupils.
She said: “They have been extremely well organised, they have had to make lots of decisions and solve problems and they’ve done it all themselves. They’ve taken the initiative, and we’re very pleased for them.”
Mooch also picked up the award for best trade fair and best presentation.
Other winners were: Link teacher of the Year, Sheila Jukes, Idsall School, Shifnal; business advisor of the year, Margaret Ryan, Hatchers Solicitors; best company report, You-nited, Phoenix School; best product, Joob, Idsall; best service, Bloomingood, Adcote School for Girls, Little Ness; excellence in design, Zest; best use of ICT, Mint Condition, Abraham Darby School, Telford; ture grit award, Silverline, Ludlow College; outstanding commitment award, Urika, The Sutherland School, Telford; Sarah Lowe Memorial, Bethany Austin, All Things Nice, Newport High School; best company secretary, Kirstin Stoneley, The Lord Silkin School, Telford and best team company, Kaboodle, Derwen College, Oswestry.
