ParkRight ‘is creating problems’

ParkRight traffic wardensControversial traffic enforcement agency ParkRight has created parking problems in some parts of Oswestry rather than resolve them, a public meeting has heard.ParkRight and parking issues were discussed at the first meeting of the new Oswestry Town Local Joint Committee last night.

The committee heard claims that ParkRight staff were targeting parents dropping off children outside schools and playgroups - but no action was being taken against illegal parking in some of Oswestry’s busiest streets, such as Salop Road.

Concerns were also voiced that ParkRight was creating parking problems which didn’t exist before.

The meeting heard claims that parking restrictions were being put in parts of Oswestry where there had never been a problem with parking or congestion before.

Phil Crosland, from Shropshire County Council’s highways department, said ParkRight was keen to hear concerns from the public. He reminded the meeting that parking enforcement was introduced to improve the traffic flow.

Inspector Jim Stafford, from Oswestry police, told the meeting a balance had to be struck so parking rules could be enforced while still allowing shoppers to get to shops.

He said the town would not survive without shops and shops needed delivery vans to have access to their premises. He said: “We have to decide whether we want to keep Oswestry as a thriving market town.

“It’s important that there is some sort of accommodation to achieve that.”

Shropshire county councillor Phil Box said the parking crackdown was prompted by complaints from the public.

With ParkRight wardens targeting parents when dropping off children at schools on Oswestry the same thing will happen in Bayston Hill when Oaklands school merges with Longmeadow school The wardens will have a field day in Longmeadow Road and Lansdowne Road.

Not that I am in favour of Parkright, I feel that some motorist are either getting lazier, or cannot read parking restriction signs. One big issue I`ve seen is around outside wilkinson/woolworths and the betting shop and up baily street on sundays. One day some will get injured by a vehicle, were you see cars are parked on both sides, with enough room for a car to get through. So were do the pedestrians go!!

I really cannot believe the audacity of some people actually complaining because the wardens are targeting illegal parking outside schools and playgroups !

I cannot think of a more worthy target than ignorant selfish lazy parents who put other people’s children in danger whilst they deliver their own offspring literally to the door.

ParkRight is performing a necessary service and if people think they are being targeted then perhaps they should make sure they don’t park illegally!

Parents stopping at schools don’t go there to park they go there to drop off their children then go. With ParkRight you only have to stop anywhere for a second and they are on to you. How long does it take to drop off a chid? Less than half a minute.St Winifreds Convent School in Shrewsbuy had the same problem with wardens waiting like vultures to ticket parents dropping of their children. The problem has now been resolved with ParkRight backing down after protests.

I agree with David… even more important to park correctly when there are children needing to cross roads. Park a little away from the school and walk a bit further.
Surely the safety of children is far more important than parking cars…..

If people parked properly and legally then there would be no need for any tickets to be issued! I am sure that parents are not given a ticket for ‘dropping off’ their children but only if they selfisly leave there car to take there children right into the school. Have all children lost the use of there legs nowadays. When I was a child we walked a long way to school, even with our parents, and it did not do us any harm!

No, I’ve just looked up the Highway Code and I can’t see anywhere that parents are exempt from the law.

I’m with shrewsbury resident on this. I am at a loss to understand why so many kids these days need dropping off at school by car.

Now, I’m no Old Git (38), and I walked to school between 1981 and 1985; the walks were never less than 1 hour. In all weathers. No exception.

    So. Questions.

Are parents engaged in motorised “willy-waving” i.e. my car is better than yours?

Do parents really believe that there is a paedophile on every street corner?

Are kids too lazy these days?

The only reason that this has even reached the news is there are obviously a hard core set of socially irresponsible motorists who think that they are above the law, slap a three points on their licences as well if you want a real impact on safety and global warming.4 tickets = 6 months walking.

Leave the traffic alone and let it sort itself out.
We Don’t need armies of “gestapo” style wardens looking for targets.
It wasn’t neccessary in the days of the horse and cart, and it ain’t neccessary now.
We pay ALOT OF MONEY to drive our cars, which bring much needed economic activity to town centres. I EXPECT to be able to park where I need to , because I PAY A LOT OF MONEY for the privelige.
NOW - can we please have the vast army of motorists having their vote on all this please ?????

Things have changed a lot since the days of the horse and cart. If there were only as many cars on the road now as there were horses and carts, then we wouldnt have a problem. It is people with selfish attitudes such as yours that mean we DO need to have traffic wardens. We ALL PAY A LOT OF MONEY to drive our cars, not just you, and if we all had your attitude to parking, towns would be gridlock and there would be no economic activity.

    Hi David -

I expected a response such as this !!

I don’t have an selfish attitude problem.
What I DO have is a need, as a business, operating for over 30 years in the shropshire area, to move about freely, as “one did in the horse and cart days”.
I am not so stupid as to “not realise” there are more cars about than there were horse and carts!!!

That statement was, in part, a deliberate ploy to get a pointless response such as yours ! - which does nothing to further the debate - and thus try to better the economic activity of the region - which benefits all.

I was born, and lived just outside, (and worked in) London for many years before moving to shrophshire.
I have seen all this before - and it has NOT improved the areas where I worked all those years ago.

I provide, at my expense (and damned hard work), much needed economic support, and employment to this county, and if that’s selfish, well, I beg to differ !!

As to your comment: We all pay a lot of money, not just me, towns would be gridlock etc etc … as a driver of over 40 years experience, and over 800,000 miles driven nationally and internationally, I can honestly say :
I park responsibly at all times, and I can claim to have NEVER parked irresponsibly,or caused any obstruction or inconvenience to anyone - ever!!
I do however object to the general principle of wardens. If people break what I still consider to be “traffic laws” (i.e “parking” then that is, and should be … the resposibility of the police.

We are in danger of “subcontracting” more and more “convenient” “sections of the law” to privately operated companies, who are primarily operating to make profit
(that is the first economic principle of a company: to make a profit), and not primarily to uphold the law. (they can’t, becuase if a profit is not made -then their operations become uneconomic and would cease!

    Kind Regards

Not really sure how your deliberate ploy to get a (in your opinion) pointless response can better the economic activity of the region, you seem to be living in a land with many cuckoos and clouds !

As for your declaration that you park responsibly at all times, and have NEVER parked irresponsibly, surely this is a subjective matter, and so is YOUR OPINION. I note you dont claim to have parked LEGALY, and your moaning here would seem to imply you do not.

So basically, you park where you want, regardless of the legality, and kid yourself that you’re not being a nuisance to the rest of us. Of course you dont have a selfish attitude problem. You keep on kidding yourself, because youre the only one you are kidding.

    Look David .

I am not argue with you - but what I have said makes perfect sense.
I have NEVER parked ILLEGALLY in all my 40 years driving -is THAT plain enough for you???
or …..are you going to persist in your stupid and ill thought out responses??

Some of us try to provide YOU with a job - and I am saying that if you kill off economic activity - you and I WON’T have gainful employment - and so the whole issue here will be irrelevant.

What is quite evident here is that all you are intent on doing in rubbishing me -and not concetrating on the debate.

    Go back to sleep .

That is my last word on the subject.

In your first post you stated “I EXPECT to be able to park where I need to , because I PAY A LOT OF MONEY for the privelige.”

In a debate about parking wardens, it is surely reasonable for someone to infer from such an arrogant comment that the contributor does not wish to comply with the law in this matter.

My responses are neither stupid or ill thought out. They are however clearly written in correct English and with a reasonable standard of spelling, unlike your own. As for your trying to provide ME with a job, please dont bother, I will never be that desperate. Once again your land is filled with clouds and cuckoos. Anyone reading the rubbish you write can clearly see you are NO BUSINESSMAN.
