Manager Darren Goodall today paid tribute to his Shifnal Town cup heroes after a night to remember at Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium.
Shifnal ended their season on a high with a narrow 2-1 success over Coalville in the Midland Alliance League Cup final.
A goal from Ben Jevons and a late Linden Dovey penalty ensured Town ended their campaign on a high after a disappointing conclusion to the regular league season saw them finish in 15th position.
“I’m really pleased because we had a bit of upheaval when I took over as manager (from Les Bristow) around October time but the performances throughout the year have largely been good,” said Goodall.
“It would have been a travesty had the lads not got a reward for the season and it was a really good occasion for everyone at the club.”
A weekend of celebrations now lie ahead for the Shifnal squad who have their presentation evening at Haughton Hall on Friday before continuing the celebrations in Liverpool 24 hours later.
And Goodall will then sit down with chairman Ron Dean to plot the way forward.
“I’m not 100 per cent sure what’s happening so I will sit down with the chairman and see what his plans are,” he added.
“You don’t know, he may want to get someone else in - but we haven’t really spoken about it.
“I would love to stay at Shifnal but I’m not the type who just wants to make the numbers up - I want to be up there challenging.”
