Henry hails boss McCarthy

Mick McCarthyKarl Henry insists boss Mick McCarthy is a “great manager” and the entire dressing room remains 100 per cent behind him despite Wolves’ failure to reach the play-offs.

Two seasons into his reign, elements of the Wolves public remain sceptical of McCarthy as the campaign ended with Wolves missing out on the top six by one goal following last season’s march to the play-offs.

But midfielder Henry believes there is no better man for the job.

“The dressing room are very much behind him,” he said.

“We think he’s the man for the job - I’m 100 per cent happy and that applies to the rest of the lads as well.

“He’s got the respect of everyone in the dressing room and no one is even thinking about whether he should go. He’s a great manager. He can’t stop the last minute goals we’ve conceded this season or penalties harshly given against us - Sir Alex Ferguson couldn’t stop free kicks going in the corner.”

Henry stresses McCarthy has built a young, hungry squad who will only improve.

“With the right mix of older and younger players, and no doubt adding to it, he needs to be given time.”

Henry is sympathetic to supporters and says he understands why some want change, but believes that is not the right way to achieve success.

“Everyone gets judged on results and we’ve not made the play-offs,” he said.

“Maybe that’s why people want a change. People think success comes by freshening things up.”

“I don’t feel that’s the way forward.”

Karl, at this time it would be more tactful to keep your thoughts to yourself.

1, Bemused Wolf: why shouldn’t the player back his manager? You can’t be criticsing Henry’s effort and commitment, can you?

I think Karl is worried that if MM goes he won’t be guaranteed a starting role every match - regardless of form.
So long McCarthy and take all your favourites with you.

Dear Mr Vincent. I don’t think the time is right for a player to start praising his manager and team spirit after one of the worst seasons for a long time.I’m afraid that Mick “I don’t give a toss what the fans think !” McCarthy should go, just as Glen Hoddle did after Moxey’s justified criticism two years ago.

We would welcome MM and his favourites on the south coast, if you dont want them.

Some wolves fans have such short memories. My opinion is that we are heading in the right direction. Look at the team, young and hungry, with a coupe of additions im confident for next season. Compare this too a while back with a team full of olden hasbeens on far too much money. I know where id rather be. MM did a fantasic job last season. Cut him some slack, for once. Change doesnt mean success. Infact id bet it would be the same old story come 2 seasons from now. Keep things as they are and lets build from the bottom up with some sensible investment from the new owner.
