Malpas’s Polly Stockton made a promising start to her challenge for the 2008 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials title.
She completed the opening dressage phase at the world famous three-day event yesterday on a good score of 46.7 penalties to be just inside the top 20.
The score, which she gained on Anne Henson’s bay horse Tom Quigley, equates to 68.89 per cent and leaves her just over 10 marks off the lead at this early stage.
The duo were tackling a daunting 29 fence cross-country course today and then face the showjumping stage tomorrow.
Fellow Malpas rider Michael Owen, whose mount King Bob is also at Badminton for the first time, was just inside the top 30.
