Turner calls for massive support

Jimmy TurnerSkipper Jimmy Turner is urging AFC Telford United’s fans to keep the faith - and pack the New Bucks Head to the rafters for Sunday’s do-or-die play-off showdown.

Telford will go into the semi-final second leg trailing opponents Barrow 2-0 after Wednesday’s disappointing setback at Holker Street.

But their 24-year-old captain is pleading with the supporters to stick by them and roar them on to a memorable comeback. “The fans are always important but they’ll be extra important on Sunday,” he declared.

“Hopefully that result won’t put too many of them off and they’ll still come out and support the boys, because we’ll give it a right good go for them.

“We know it was a far from perfect result but we’re not out of it all and, with the crowd behind us, I would say they can suck that ball into the net for us.

“Hopefully we’ll have fans behind both goals so they’ll be sucking the ball in for the full 90 minutes.”

Turner was quick to hold his hand up to the mistake that gifted substitute Paul Tait the opener for Barrow on Wednesday.

But he is not letting that affect him as he prepares for the weekend task. Telford must break down a mean defence that has now conceded just four in their last 14 outings.

“I must admit it was a bit of an error by myself and they got a bit of luck on their part,” said Turner.

“I maybe shouldn’t have gone in for the ball but it’s ricocheted off their lad and he’s gone through and put it away well. He’d only just come on too, so it looks like an inspired substitution.

“They’re a solid outfit and I’m sure they’ll come down on Sunday and look to defend what they’ve got, but all we can do is give it a right good go.”

* The capacity for Sunday’s game has been set at 5,408, with visitors Barrow getting 702 tickets for spaces on the south side of the East Terrace.

The match is NOT all ticket for home fans, but supporters are being warned that anyone arriving after 2.20pm cannot be guaranteed admission.
