Defence is key to Barrow run

Barrow will put their trust in the settled side that has engineered their remarkable run to the play-offs when they host AFC Telford United in tonight’s semi-final first leg.

The Cumbrians have had a completely unchanged defence in their last 13 games, during which they have kept nine clean sheets. And they have made only minimal changes during their long unbeaten run.

Midfielder Matt Henney, who has scored 16 goals is the biggest doubt - with Barrow’s medical staff rating him only 50/50 due to a pulled hamstring.

Goalkeeper Tim Deasy (back), captain and centre-back Paul Jones (leg) and striker Jason Walker (ankle) all missed training on Monday evening - but are expected to be fit to play.

“We pointed out to the lads that they’ve not achieved anything yet,” said joint manager Dave Bayliss.

“We told them to remember the good habits that have been instilled in them all season, to go out and relax and play their football.

“There will be big crowds, both at Holker Street tonight and at Telford on Sunday, and the lads will respond to the atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Barrow’s player of the year Steve McNulty signed a new two-year deal over the weekend.
