Steel-maker giant Corus has opened a unique dedicated metal centre in Telford, creating seven new jobs.
The new base on Halesfield is the first in the country to guarantee express 24-hour delivery by using its own transport fleet and Corus’ extensive distribution network.
Corus chiefs believe the centre is unique with its 24-hour coverage, saying it will offer customers fast, flexible service with no minimum order quantity and short lead times.
Business manager Lee Winsper said: “A wide range of products are held in stock including an extensive variety of structural steels weld mesh, open steel flooring and hollow sections.
“Processing facilities enable the centre to offer cut-to-length and bundle-cutting options for its customers, they also offer shotblasting and painting.
“The new metal centre will meet customer’s requirements, in both range of products and ability.
“Because we have access to the extensive stocks held by Corus nationwide we can cater for orders of any size, from a single bar of steel up to a full load, and source a wide variety of material at very short notice.
“Designed to meet the requirements of both small and large customers, the new centre will give organisations everything they expect from a local supplier with all the benefits of dealing with a major multi-national company with a comprehensive product range, stock availability and competitive prices.”
The Telford site is the latest in a string of metal centres offering customers a quick and convenient way of buying smaller quantities of a wide range of steel products.
The centre, which caters for for small and medium-sized building, engineering, farming and manufacturing companies operating in the region, is part of the Corus Steel which is owned by Indian group Tata.
Tata is a conglomerate that turns over £15 billion a year and, in Britain, owns Corus (formerly British steel) and Tetley Tea. It recently bought Jaguar and Ford and is India’s biggest truck maker.
