Boss Paul Simpson is refusing to rule out the possibility of bringing centre-back Graeme Lee back to Shrewsbury Town over the summer.
The experienced defender has been on loan at Oteley Road for the last few weeks, having been brought in by Simpson to offer some much-needed experience.
But the 29-year-old’s Town career has been cut short, with parent club Doncaster Rovers recalling him in order to help solve a mini-injury crisis at the Keepmoat Stadium.
That meant Lee missed the chance to play in this afternoon’s derby with near-neighbours Chester, but was instead hoping to be involved with Rovers’ clash at home to Luton.
“I don’t know what’s going on at this moment in time. He’s gone back to Doncaster and could be involved in two massive games for them to win promotion to the Championship,” said Simpson.
“Doncaster have not made a decision on him and I think it would be wrong to talk about him until they do.
“I think there’d be more to come from him than our supporters have seen so far. He’s had a troubled season with injuries and we didn’t see the best of him but I know what he’s about.
“He is very popular with the fans at Doncaster. He is a captain and a leader and he’s been involved with some good clubs.”
Meanwhile, Simpson admits time is running out for non-contract defender Martin Riley to prove he is worth an extended deal.
The 22-year-old former Wolves man was brought to the club by the Town chief towards the end of the transfer window.
But he has been beset by injuries since then and Simpson added: “He’s not had a chance at all, just yet.
“He was hoping to get fit for this week and I need to have a chat with him to see how he’s doing.
“He trained for one day with the physios but then he had a setback at the end of the session and he’s not been able to train at all since then.”

I for one would take Lee, he was a very good player in the short time he had to show.
