Work to rebuild a Shropshire bowling club which was destroyed by fire eight months ago has been delayed. Bridgnorth’s Bylet Bowling Club was burned down by arsonists last August.
The club was due to be rebuilt earlier this month, but work has been delayed by three weeks.
Tom McGill, captain of the Bylet, said they had contracted a builder to carry out the work, but they were waiting for building regulations before work could begin.
Mr McGill said: “While we were waiting for building regulations approval the contractor took a new job. We’ve estimated that work will start in about nine days from now.
“By the time work does start that would have been a delay of about three weeks. We’re not worried, there’s no point in rushing it now. We’d rather the job got done properly.
“It’s not possible to have the club up and running for this year’s bowling season anyway but hopefully it will all be done by Christmas, that would be marvellous.
“It’s not just a case of having a building up as it all has to be furnished and done out. We’re hoping to at least have the shell up during the bowling season.”
He added that the appeal fund still stood at about £16,000 and the aim was to reach £20,000.
The Bylet bowling club, which stands on an island in the River Severn, was attacked by arsonists in August last year.
The new club has got to be raised by a metre to make it flood-proof, and there will be improved disabled access.
