Heavy downpours caused flash flooding across Shropshire, leading to chaos on the roads for drivers.Up to a third of an inch of rain fell in an hour this morning, and in Telford flooding affected major roads at the height of the rush hour.
Ketley Brook roundabout and Apley Castle roundabout were both struck by heavy showers leaving behind pools of standing water.

Traffic was backed up from the Ketley Brook junction to the M54 roundabout as motorists crept past the tide of floodwater.
Half the A5223 carriageway towards the Ketley junction was in deep water, causing drivers to squeeze through using one lane.
Driving conditions on the M54 and A5 were hazardous with large amounts of spray reducing drivers’ visibility, with cars slowing down and turning on their lights.
But Shropshire Star weatherman John Warner had some good news for county people as he forecast a better end to the day and a warm, sunny day tomorrow.
He said: “This morning we had a narrow belt of heavy rain across Western areas producing anything up to a third of an inch of rain in an hour.
“Tonight we expect scattered showers to soon die out leaving it dry over night with clear periods.
“Tomorrow it will be dry and rather warm with sunny periods.”

Strange thing is that this is nothing new. There always is a large collections of water at this junction when it rains.

Up to a third of an inch of rain left puddles on the roads??
