Wing-back Lee Vaughan will be the surprise on the AFC Telford United teamsheet this weekend, with assistant manager Larry Chambers declaring: “We trust him to be sensible.”Vaughan is sitting on 14 bookings for the season, and one more in the last game of the regular campaign at Burscough on Saturday would see him suspended for the play-offs.
Defender Asa Charlton is in the same boat but is likely to be rested against the Linnets, while on-loan centre-back Dave Roberts is not eligible to play against his own parent club.
Vaughan though, will be thrown into the fray in order to maintain his match fitness ahead if the play-off semi-final first leg on Wednesday evening next week.
“We need to give him a game,” said Chambers. “If he’s going to figure in the play-offs then he needs to get some time on the pitch between now and Wednesday because he hasn’t played for two weeks.
“We’re going to trust him to be sensible. We’ll talk to him about it but he knows the situation and now we need him to go out and give us a proper performance.
“Her has to be careful but it’s a game we want to win as we want to finish in second place, so we can’t be treating it like a training exercise.
We’ve had clarification and we’ve been told that Dave Roberts can’t play, so there’s a chance we might have to risk Asa Charlton - but ideally we’re looking to give him a rest.”
Meanwhile, centre-back Richard Teesdale has returned to the New Bucks Head after a month on loan at UniBond League premier division side Ilkeston Town.
Teesdale has played regularly for Ilkeston during their battle to beat the drop, and will link up with his Telford team-mates again at training tonight.
But he is far from certain to be included in the 16 for the trip to Burscough, having found himself pushed down the pecking order of centre-backs.

He doesn’t look particularly sensible to be honest. That’s a defenders face if ever I saw one.
