Adlington in Beijing hope

Shropshire judo star Sarah Adlington is on stand-by to compete in the Beijing Olympics - after being named as one of the reserves in the GB squad.

Adlington, 21, would step into the breach in the over-78kgs section should first pick Karina Bryant have to pull out for any reason.

It represents another highlight for the Shrewsbury-born ace, who grew up in Bayston Hill but is now based in Edinburgh.

Adlington was also the reserve for Bryant in the European Championships and found herself drafted into action for that competition at the last minute.

Bryant was forced to pull out due to injury and Adlington took her place.
