Labourer hurt in fire

A man suffered superficial burns and a dog died after a fire engulfed a caravan on a Shrewsbury farm.

Two fire crews battled the blaze at Forge Farm, Upton Magna, near Shrewsbury, which severely damaged the static caravan and partially spread to an adjacent barn, just after 11.30pm yesterday.

A dog was unable to escape the fire. Ambulance crews said a man, believed to be a 50-year-old farm labourer who had been living in the caravan, suffered burns to the back of his neck and was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for assessment and treatment.
