Famous Salopians - Part One

Charles Darwin, Robert Clive, Wilfred Owen and Mary Webb… We can all name the noble pioneers, poets and notaries who helped shape and colour the county of Shropshire, but what about modern-day famous Salopians?

Take our photo gallery tour of the county’s rising stars and best-known faces, and keep an eye out for our second gallery ‘Former Shrewsbury Schoolboys’ later this week!

Pete Postlethwaite

Hollywood actor Pete Postlethwaite is one of the county’s most recognisable faces. The star, who’s graced the silver screen in blockbusters including Jurassic Park, The Usual Suspects, Brassed Off and Dragonheart, has lived with his family in an eco-friendly home near Bishops Castle for several years.

Pete’s appeared several times at the Ludlow Assembly Rooms and has been an active campaigner in the county, helping to raise awareness on a range of issues including crime prevention and autism. Read more here…

Pete Postlethwaite is well placed as 1st in the Shropshire celeb list.
This is a man that at the start of his hugely demanding solo stageplay Scaramouche Jones amazingly found time to assist in a project to discourage people from buying stolen property because most that do directly fund drug abuse.
He flatly refused to take a penny piece for his time and his parting words to me as he left from a days filming for the project were ‘lets just hope in our hearts that we can bring an end to this awful problem. If a bargain is too good to be true then that’s probably exactly what it is.’ A great man, a great dad & a great big heart.

Star - just because she is showing much of her chest from above does not make her hot. You must be about 13.

Im actualy alot older than 13, just because i comment on the attractiveness of a woman, doesnt make mean its becasue of the fact shes showing cleavage …. infact its something i hadnt noticed … her eyes are gorgeous, your the one that drew attention to her clevage ….

    you must be 13

Ian Hunter, aside from Mott the Hoople fame sang a sad song about unrequited love entitled “Irene Wilde” in which he recalls the old (and much missed) Barker Street bus station.

Not a lot of people know what!
