‘Win or bust’ is Kightly play-off call

Michael KightlyMichael Kightly believes Wolves must win their remaining three games to stand any chance of reaching the play-offs.

Tommy Miller’s last-gasp equaliser took the shine off Kightly’s return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines as Wanderers were held to a 1-1 draw at Molineux by fellow play-off contenders Ipswich.

The result left Mick McCarthy’s men five points behind sixth-placed Crystal Palace, however they could close the gap to two points should they win their game in hand against Cardiff tonight.

“If we win all three games it makes it possible so we keep going until we can’t do it,” he said. “Nine points would do it but it is tough. It is another big game - it is a must win. We have got to win our last three games it is as simple as that.”

The England Under-21 played the second half after replacing the injured Michael Gray after the break and admitted he now hopes to force his way into the starting XI.

“I was absolutely buzzing,” he added. “I feel fine and we will see what happens Tuesday.”

McCarthy is sweating on the fitness of Gray (shin) while Kightly came through his return unscathed.

However, midfielder David Edwards picked up a knee injury on his return from almost six weeks on the sidelines and is not expected to be ready to face Dave Jones’ side.

Karl Henry (knee) and Rob Edwards (ankle) are again set to miss out for Wanderers as they continue their recoveries, while Kevin Kyle, Gary Breen and Stephen Elliott will hope to be promoted from the bench.

Victory for Wanderers would move them into seventh place, two points behind Crystal Palace, who occupy the final play-off spot, with two games to play.
