England cap for Kyle

Kyle BennettShropshire’s Kyle Bennett has hit the international football trail.

The 17-year-old midfielder, who is with Wolves, received a late call-up to the England under-18s squad for the friendly against Austria at Hartlepool.

The former Thomas Telford School pupil appeared for the second 45 minutes as a substitute in the 2-0 victory.

“I was totally surprised when I heard the news - it was a tremendous thrill,” said Bennett. “There is no bigger honour than playing for your country.”

It’s been a big few days for the Bennett family with Kyle’s brother Elliott - another who attended Thomas Telford School - scoring the winner for Bury in the 1-0 victory over Macclesfield on Saturday.

He is on loan at the League Two club from Wolves.
