Oswestry’s library will have to close for six weeks to allow the redevelopment of the building to be finally completed.
The revamp of the library started at the beginning of the year and will bring a bigger and better service for the people of Oswestry.
Principal librarian Claire Cartlidge said the work would bring about a temporary closure of the building in the summer.
She said it was estimated that the first phase of the redevelopment would be finished by mid June.
The library would then be closed for six weeks to allow other refurbishment work to be completed.
Town councillors were last night told during that period, a slimmed-down library service would operate so people could still exchange books.
However, there would be no computer access, no access to meeting rooms and no access to the local history department.
Mrs Cartlidge said people needing to have computer access would be directed towards Gobowen Library and an extra mobile library service may be introduced during the work.
The meeting heard the fully refurbished library should be opened in mid August and councillors were reminded of the benefits the revamp would bring.
Councillor Betty Gull said she was looking forward to the opening of the new building.
“It’s going to be huge,” she added.
