Pensioner shut in by raid pair

A pensioner was shut in a room of his home by two men who raided his property after posing as water officials.

The victim, who is in his 70s, was left shaken following the incident in Leasowes Close, Bridgnorth, at about 4pm on Thursday.

Police today said a man, posing as a water official, knocked on the pensioner’s door and claimed there had been a burst pipe and he needed to check the water supply. While he was attempting to distract the householder, the victim caught another man in his living room and noticed an amount of cash was missing.

When he challenged the man, he pushed past the pensioner and shut him in the room. The pair then fled. The householder called the police, who carried out an extensive search, but the two men were not found.

Today police appealed for anyone who might have seen anything to contact them.
