Michael Kightly insists he is ready for his first start in five months to help rescue Wolves’ play-off hopes against Cardiff tomorrow night.
The exciting winger made his comeback as a half-time substitute on Saturday when Mick McCarthy’s men were cruelly denied victory against Ipswich by a last-gasp equaliser from Tommy Miller.
Now the 22-year-old has backed himself to make his first senior start since November as Wolves look to the must-win clash against the Bluebirds.
“If the gaffer wants me to start, I feel ready,” said Kightly. “After playing 45 minutes, I felt alright.
“I’ll get my rest and make sure I do things right and see what happens.
“I was buzzing to be involved and to get half a game, I was really pleased - it felt good. My fitness felt fine so we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
Kightly admits the Wolves dressing room was left devastated by the late equaliser and says they must win all three games to make the top six.
“We were all gutted with it being virtually the last kick,” he said.
“To concede a goal like that was gutting. The boys were devastated.
“It’s a must-win game - if we don’t win that, then the play-offs are gone. If we don’t win all three, we’ve got no chance.
“But it makes it tougher now. It’s still possible so we’ll keep going until we can’t do it.
“Three wins would put us on 72 points and that would do it.
“It was just soul destroying - from the masseur to the gaffer, everyone was gutted.”
Goalscorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake admits Wolves need luck to make the play-offs now.
The draw against Ipswich left Wolves ninth, five points off the play-offs with nine to play for.
“Let’s hope that bit of luck that take us up into the play-offs,” he said.
