Bridge to close for £1m work

The collapse of the old Burway Bridge.A temporary bridge leading into Ludlow will close on Monday as work starts on a £1 million replacement.

The old Burway Bridge collapsed during flooding last summer. Traffic into Ludlow, along Coronation Avenue, has used a temporary, single lane bridge.

On Monday, work will start from 6.30am to remove the bailey bridge and build a new two-lane structure. In order to carry out the work it will be necessary to close Coronation Avenue to traffic and pedestrians.

The closure is expected to last until the end of September, when the road is to be reopened.

The county council said when the bridge is closed, traffic into the town centre from the north will be diver- ted along the A49 to the Henley Road Roundabout, then along Henley Road, Gravel Hill and Station Drive.

With the exception of high vehicles, traffic out of the town will be signed to the A49 along Station Road and Sheet Road. Outbound high vehicles will be diverted to the A49 via Gravel Hill and Henley Road.

The work is expected to finish in December.
