Speed trap has been removed

A speed camera in Shrewsbury has been removed to build a mini-roundabout which will provide access to a new development of 189 homes in Spring Gardens.

The camera facing the direction into Shrewsbury in Ditherington Road was taken away this week and will not be replaced.

Sarah James, spokeswoman for Persimmon Homes, said: “To enable site access, we have removed a speed camera and this work has been carried out with the approval of the highways department at Shropshire County Council.

“It’s a permanent removal. It has been taken down to construct a roundabout for access for residents to get onto the site.”

The camera’s partner on the other side of the road was destroyed when a car crashed into it last August. An alternative site may be considered for the cameras in the future.

A spokesman for the county council said: “It has been necessary to remove the static camera from the site due to the Persimmon Homes Development.

“However, accident and speeds will be monitored at the site, and we are currently reviewing the accidents statistics within Shropshire in order to identify a suitable new location for the static camera.”

The Persimmon Homes development will feature 138 houses and 51 apartments - 30 per cent of which will be affordable homes.

That’s a relief. Now there’s no need to speed down the road past the shops and then brake suddenly before the undertaker’s. The selfish idiots can just keep going until they hit someone.

Thanks to the roadworks going on in town centre, there’s no need for the cameras any more. St. Michael’s Street and Ditherington Road have been converted into Shrewsbury’s longest car park!

    Astonishing.

The Scam Pratnership place a camera at a “blackspot”, then are comfortable removing it for a housing development. Hm. Can’t have been much of a “blackspot” then, could it?

Then, they start looking for another scam location to - presumably - recover the potential lost revenue from the one removed at Ditherington!

What a poisonous, self-serving, bunch pratnership employees are. We pay their wages, they purport to save lives on the roads, and DfT stats clearly show they are doing nothing of the sort.
