Fifty people in a part of Shrewsbury vowed to fight against Post Office plans to close their branch during a packed public meeting last night.Residents, councillors and the town’s MP Daniel Kawczynski gathered at Mount Pleasant Infant School to discuss the threat to the Ditherington Post Office.
Councillor Alan Mosley said the meeting had been a success and said a petition of 1,500 signatures had also been presented which will now be taken to Parliament.
Mr Mosley, who organised the meeting, said: “All the residents pledged to fight the closure and a small steering group has been formed to work on collecting evidence to make a detailed submission to the post office.”
Peter Shemar, who has run the Ditherington post office for nearly eight years, said he was delighted with the amount of support he had received.
Last night’s meeting comes after 50 people gathered on Tuesday night in Marton, near to the south Shropshire and Mid Wales border, to discuss the threat to their village post office.
Locals voted unanimously to fight the closure.
A small working group was set up to put a business case in place and locals decided to launch a Save our Post Office website.

good luck to ditherington and marton and all other post offices threatened by this government who have lost sight of the importance of local post offices. i begin to wonder if the eu have a hanh in this or it is privatisation of the post office by the back door
