That’s more like it, writes our Shrewsbury Town blogger James Pugh. What a great feeling it is after Town secured a long overdue win, beating Wrexham 3-0 at the New Meadow.
It’s not only a win over our local rivals which virtually condemns them to non-league football next season, but more importantly virtually guarantees our safety.
The win was deserved one for the players and for Paul Simpson – who would have hoped to have gotten his first one under his belt a lot sooner. The first is always the hardest to get when a new manager takes charge of a team and now that he’s got it, let’s hope the confidence throughout the team increases.
We haven’t seen many games where Town have beaten a team so comfortably and get a clean sheet at the same time. It was far from a perfect performance and there is still lots for Simpson to do, but let’s enjoy the moment and end the season on a high.
There were plenty of positives in the performance - most notably creating a number of chances and scoring three goals. Well done to Scott Bevan. That is two games he has played really well in and he has a real chance to cement the first team goalkeeping jersey for next season. Well done to Simpson as well for being brave enough to put Bevan in at a crucial stage of the season.
It was great to see a full house and although I had worries over Wrexham snatching a victory before the game, the early goal from McIntyre was crucial. As we have seen this season, when you’re struggling and the opposition score first, the players’ heads drop, and this is what happened to Wrexham.
It will be interesting to see now if Simpson will give all his squad players a chance before the end of the season, or will he stick with what he thinks is his best side to try and get us to finish as high as we can. In my point of view I would like to see players like Jimmy Ryan, James Meredith, and Chris Humphreys start the remaining games of the season.
Lets not get carried away with the win, but at least supporters can enjoy this week and hopefully celebrate another good result next weekend which will mathematically guarantee our survival.

quite agree with the bloggers comments but please avoid like the plague american slang such as GOTTEN, yuk, why not got or obtained. nearly every day somebody calls for jimmy ryan to be given a game. why hasn’t gary, macca or paul given him a runout i think we should be told.
the only good thing about this season has been town’s goal difference of-7. really we should be halfway up that league, 3 more goals at mansfield will improve it even more. do not let up town, come on you shrows, floreat salopia
