Simpson wants win tomorrow

Paul SimpsonPaul Simpson today looked ahead to his first derby as Shrewsbury Town manager and declared: “We want to do it for the fans.”

Shrewsbury have managed just eight home victories all season, the last of which came on January 19.

And Simpson is determined to end that sequence against border rivals Wrexham tomorrow as they seek to stave off any lingering threat of relegation.

“We will have a clearer picture of what the situation at the bottom is when today’s results come through but whatever happens, I want us to win this one,” he said.

“It would be good to do it for the fans and we can kill two birds with one stone.

“We can stop the winless streak and we can also make ourselves safe.”

Victory for Town would guarantee their place in League Two should Mansfield have failed to collect maximum points at Macclesfield this afternoon, while also taking Wrexham ever closer to the trapdoor.

And Simpson’s knows Brian Little’s side have to approach the game in a win-or-bust manner.

“They have got to give it a right good go,” he added.

“They did that at MK Dons on Tuesday and although the scoreline doesn’t reflect it, they had opportunities at 2-1 to get level.

“They have had a shocking run of results, they need a win and will be scrapping for everything.”

well done town on a brilliant result and fair play to paul simpson for encouraging the team to safety. with a goal difference of -7 we should be way up the league. nothing pathetic about this performance and i for one hope to see the dragons back in the league very soon as it seems possible they are for the drop
