Wolves are eyeing Derby’s Kevin Thelwell as the club’s new Academy director to replace Chris Evans.
Sources say the 34-year-old, currently Rams’ Academy manager, is set to leave Pride Park by mutual consent this week.
Derby are believed to be lining up Everton’s head of recruitment Bill Cannon as the replacement for Thelfall.
Reports in the East Midlands say Thelwell, who was still at work at Derby today, is being chased by another club.
That club appears to be Wolves following chief executive Jez Moxey’s statement about the vacant position at the weekend, when he said: “We hope to provide a better update next week.”
Thelwell has been with Derby since July 2006 when, at the age of 32, he became the youngest Academy manager in the country after replacing Terry Westley, who joined Birmingham.
Prior to his move to Pride Park, Thelwell was director of youth for a year at Preston and was brought to the East Midlands by former Rams boss Billy Davies.
Although he didn’t make the grade as a professional, Cheshire-born Thelwell is in the blue-riband category of coaches, having led the programmes for UEFA ‘A’ and Pro licences for managers during four years at the Welsh FA.
