Lack of helpers a threat to show

The future of a show and sports day that has run for 60 years in a village on the Mid Wales/ Shropshire border is in jeopardy due to a lack of volunteers.

Chirbury Village Show and Sports Day annual meeting yesterday heard there was a lack of people willing to assist with the running of the event.

Show secretary Julia Ashfield said people were needed to assist in all aspects of the show, which is traditionally held on the first Saturday in August.

She said volunteers were required to help set out tables and displays in the marquee, to run stalls, help with the draw and take entrance money

The committee decided to adjourn the meeting and send out flyers to everybody in the village and surrounding areas, inviting them to an extraordinary meeting at the parish hall, on April 17 at 8pm.

Mrs Ashfield said: “A decision will be taken on the night whether or not to proceed with the show.”

The sad fact with small events like this you always have the select few who known only to themselves HAVE BEEN INVOLVED WITH IT FOR DONKEYS AND WOULD NEVER MOVE OVER WITH TIME they call all the shots and have put people off from comeing forward its sad but happens all over the uk in small villages and towns the same old tired faces who will not stand down until its time for them to push up the daisies.
