Jamie still has play-off hope

Jamie VermiglioMidfielder Jamie Vermiglio insists he would be prepared to risk playing on his broken foot should AFC Telford United be involved in the Blue Square North play-offs

The tough-tackling ace was stunned by a midweek setback when a routine X-ray revealed his metatarsal was still not fully healed.

Doctors have told the 25-year-old he should not play again this season - but he today revealed he would be prepared to ignore that advice in the best interests of the team.

“It’s a bit of a frustrating setback for me,” said Vermiglio. “I could still feel some pain but I thought that was normal until the doctor said there was still a stress fracture there.

“But, when it comes to the play-offs I’m prepared to take the risk and play.

“I don’t think the physio Rudy (Farquharson) will be happy with me for saying that, but I would want to give it a go.In my head, if I was picking the team I would be playing and I’d have a go because it’s the play-offs and if I don’t try then I’d always be looking back and thinking: ‘what if?’

“It’s up to the gaffer though, and it’s wrong for me to say I’d definitely be okay to play because that’s putting him in an awkward position.

“I don’t want to go behind Rudy’s back, and it’s not just about this season - I do have to think about my future.”
