Hundreds of people were flocking to Bridgnorth’s Severn Valley Railway today for its biggest ever 1960s transport day.Classic cars from Britain’s glorious motoring past rolled up to create a nostalgic display for visitors.
It was the railway’s first special event since the full 16-mile track was reopened on Good Friday after being devastated by last summer’s floods.
Today’s events, at each of the stations at Bridgnorth, Arley, Bewdley and Kidderminster, included a total of almost 150 examples of British cars either made, designed or in general use during the 1960s.
The new Highley Engine House also had its own array of vehicles lined up for visitors.
Cars included everything from the Austin A35 - the Mini of its day - to the E-type Jaguar, the Rochdale Olympic and Lagonda 16/80.
SVR’s busiest timetable, normally reserved for bank holiday weekends, was in operation.
Ten trains departed from both Bridgnorth and Kidderminster stations throughout the day, to carry passengers to the different motor show sites.
Bridgnorth station had 30 vintage vehicles, while the newly-opened £5 million Engine House visitor and educational centre at Highley had a 1951 Austin Sheerline limousine and 1965 Alvis TE21, and a further dozen classic cars.
