Daleks invade county base

Show organiser Gary Stevens, left, of Ellesmere and exhibitor Andy Luxton, of Shrewsbury, come face to face with a life-size Dalek at CosfordExterminate! Doctor Who’s most feared enemies will be on the prowl at the Shropshire Model Show tomorrow at the RAF Cosford Museum.

The Daleks and other figures from the long-lived television series, which is back on BBC1 tonight, will be among some of the many items on display.

People will even have the chance to quiz a Dalek in a special feature in Hangar One called “An Audience with a Dalek”.

The show, which returns to Cosford after a four-year break, brings together Shropshire Scale Modellers and Telford branch of the International Plastic Modellers Society.

Organisers are expecting more than 2,000 people to enjoy the displays and snap up a bargain.

Exhibitors from more than 70 clubs will be showing off perfect scale models of planes, cars, bikes, trucks and science fiction items.

There will be more than 40 traders selling modelling items such as plastic kits, glues and paints as well as handmade cards, handbags and jewellery.

Organiser Gary Stevens, of Ellesmere, said: “I estimate there will be nearly 500 people from as far away as Plymouth, Kent and Scotland selling and displaying.

“We will have a tombola running all day with some excellent prizes, as well as the open competition in which people can enter their models and win a medal.”

Entry to the show is free of charge. Visitors will also be able to view the museum’s three hangars and the National Cold War Exhibition.

I went along to see the show & take in the cold war exhibition & had a great afternoon.
I hope it comes back next year as the setting was just perfect with the stalls in amongst the aircraft.

Well done & thankyou to all those involved.
