A Shropshire boy who survived against the odds after an airgun accident has had an early birthday present to speed up his recovery.
David Whalley, from Cheswardine, near Market Drayton, will turn nine tomorrow. He spent weeks fighting for his life in intensive care after he was shot in the head last November.
He was given a seven per cent chance of survival, but is now recovering at home and looking forward to returning to school later this year. And to aid his recovery, the Drayton Action for Health group and the Rotary Club have presented him with a tricycle.
David’s mother, Angela, said he underwent major surgery at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and then spent four weeks in a coma. He returned home in January, and has no brain damage, but slight mobility problems.
She said: “David’s physiotherapist said he should get a tricycle. He used to ride his bike a lot, and when he was at Birmingham they had a tricycle and David was the first on it.”
Mrs Whalley said she would wish to thank the Drayton Action for Health group and the Rotary Club for funding David’s tricycle.

david is my brother and i think he has made fab progress he is the bravest brother in the world i am so grateful that the surgen at birmingham childrens hospital was able to save his life

I know his sister and if anything like that ever happenend to my brother I dunno what I would do. They are all really brave and I hope David gets a full recovery soon!!!
