Man dies after being struck by train

A man was killed when he was struck by a train at Dorrington, between Shrewsbury and Church Stretton, today.

Police this afternoon said the incident was not being treated as suspicious and nobody else was injured.

The incident led to delays of services through Shropshire.

This afternoon Gavin Brown, press officer for British Transport Police, said: “BTP can confirm that a man was killed when he was struck by the 08:35 Manchester to Milford Haven Arriva trains service train in Dorrington.

“The incident occurred around 10am today and is not being treated as suspicious. BTP handed the railway back to Network Rail at 11.26am.”

The County Air Ambulance was called to the scene, but paramedics were unable to save the man.

His body was removed from the track and police began an investigation at the site. It was not clear why the man was on the line and police are now trying to establish his identity.
