Bridgnorth Town will take their place back among the county’s football elite by being invited back into the Shropshire Senior Cup.
The Crown Meadow men have been excluded from the annual pre-season competition ever since their relegation to the relative wilderness of the West Midlands League.
But Saturday’s victory over Pelsall Villa has confirmed their promotion back to the Midland Alliance, and they will be given the chance to join Market Drayton and Shifnal in getting a crack at the big two - Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford United.
“They will now receive an invitation to play in the Senior Cup,” Shropshire FA spokesman Neil Sambrook confirmed. “We’re delighted with their promotion and they’ve had a wonderful season.
“It’s great for the county after some years where our clubs were moving in the wrong direction - it’s great that we’re now seeing a turnaround, with Market Drayton, Shifnal and now Bridgnorth all winning promotion in the last three years.”
With five teams now eligible for the Senior Cup, the format of the competition will be discussed at a Shropshire FA Council and directors meeting tomorrow.
