Post offices across Shropshire were today bracing themselves for a closures hit-list which it is feared could lead to up to 30 facing the axe.
Bosses at Shropshire County Council have vowed to battle on to lobby the Government about the impact closures, which will be announced tomorrow, will have on the county.
Nationally as many as 1,500 branches are expected to be affected. Ministers last week rejected a Conservative appeal in the Commons for the programme to be suspended.
This Thursday leading Shropshire county councillors will meet with Post Office officials to discuss the proposals.
Today council leader Malcolm Pate, who will attend the meeting, said: “I am very concerned at the impact these proposed closures will have on Shropshire communities.
“We will do everything we can to support people who want to campaign to save their local post offices, and we will put Shropshire’s case very firmly to Post Office managers when we meet them.
“We have lobbied the Government about the potential impact closing post offices could have, and will continue to do so.”
John Hurst-Knight, cabinet member for waste and economy, will also attend the meeting along with councillors whose divisions contain branches earmarked for closure.

The Star is really stretching this story out! The choice is simple. More people use the offices, and they develop in other areas to ensure they stay profitable or, at a time economic slowdown more and more tax subsidy is pumped into the post office system.

The Post service is not getting better it’s getting worse with letters going missing, how about the news once in a while about the postman just throws the letters away because he couldn’t delivery them on time.
