A power surge swept through Shropshire this weekend as Phil Taylor stormed to back-to-back tournament successes at Telford’s International Centre.
Thirteen-times world champion Taylor, whose nickname is The Power, made it six victories in eight events throughout March by winning the Midlands Players Championship on Saturday, and the Blue Square UK Open Regional Final 24 hours later.
The Stoke-based player defeated Colin Lloyd 3-0 in Saturday’s final, and clinched yesterday’s title by defeating Brendan Dolan by taking eight legs on the trot.
Taylor had defeated chief rival Raymond Van Barneveld 7-4 in yesterday’s semi-final.
Bridgnorth’s Jonathan Overton reached the second round on Saturday before being beaten 3-0 by eventual finalist Lloyd, and went down 5-4 to Ian Banks in the first round on Sunday after receiving a bye through the preliminary stage.
Telford duo Derek Box and Glyn Humphries, both from Dawley, lost their first matches on both days on their PDC debuts.
