
More than 500 soldiers from the Royal Irish Regiment, based at Tern Hill, were given a special St Patrick’s Day send-off from Shropshire before being deployed for a six month tour of duty in war-torn Afghanistan. General Philip Trousdell told the troops they would become the greatest of soldiers by taking on this new role. “You will be treading in the footsteps of great Irish warriors,” the General said during his address.
