One of the oldest and most-loved residents of a dog kennels near Shrewsbury is desperately seeking a new home.
The 10-year-old Labrador-cross called Colonel is currently staying at the Dogs Trust at Roden, where he beds in his own “officer’s mess” in the reception as he is too fragile to sleep in the kennels with the other canine troops.
Rehoming centre manager Louise Campbell said Colonel’s arthritis meant his knees are not what they used to be but he still enjoys playing with his football.
“Colonel is an absolute gentleman,” she said.
“He has a waggy tail for everyone he meets.
“He is looking for a very special home with a family who will give him all the tender loving care this beautiful dog craves. This lovely chap should live out his days being spoilt rotten in the lovely home he so dearly deserves.”
The trust will also pay for all Colonel’s vets bills as he qualifies for the foster scheme - for certain dogs who are elderly or have on-going medical conditions.
Under the scheme, the trust offers to pay for all veterinary treatment, apart from routine vaccinations, worming or flea treatment, with the proviso that the adopter pays the first £7.50 of the bill for each visit paid to the veterinary surgeon.
Anyone who can help with Colonel or another rescue dog is asked to call Dogs Trust Roden on (01952) 770225.
