Eastwood wants to net his chance

Freddy EastwoodFreddy Eastwood today pledged to unleash his frustration on Wolves’ promotion rivals - if Mick McCarthy gives him the green light.Eastwood is back in contention for a starting role at Molineux against Queens Park Rangers after a sparkling cameo against Scunthorpe on Tuesday, with the Wolves forward hoping to make his first start since Boxing Day.

His infrequent appearances since his summer transfer have led to question marks being raised over his immediate Molineux future but Eastwood today insisted he is “desperate” to stay at Wolves - and has never courted a loan move.

But he knows he needs games if he’s going to regain the momentum he built up during his final year at Southend.

“Hopefully I’m getting closer to starting a game,” Eastwood said. “I still think I need a run in the team and hopefully that will come sooner rather than later.

“It would be nice to unleash a bit of frustration on other teams. I’m still confident I can play to my full ability and if I get the chance then I’ll do that.

“There are eight games left now and the summer is soon going to be here when we’ll know what’s going to happen.

“If we get into the play-offs and go up it could be a completely different ballgame but if we’re still in this league I don’t really want a repeat of this season sitting on the bench.

“I want to be involved, I want to play 40-odd games as I did last season.

“I’m sure we’ll sort something out whether that means staying here and playing or moving on. I’m happy here, that’s the good thing, I’m settled here and want to play for this club.

“I’m just going to keep working away until the summer and we’ll see what happens,” he said.

“Next season if I know I’m not going to be involved in the same way as this season I’d have to look elsewhere.”

While Eastwood is frustrated at being made to warm the bench, he refutes suggestions of a fall-out with boss Mick McCarthy.

“We’ve probably disagreed on things which I think you’re going to get between every manager and player,” he said. “But the gaffer has been good as gold.”

Meanwhile McCarthy has hailed the return to form of Seyi Olofinjana. He said: “Seyi’s a top player.

“He’s arguably the best player we’ve got in terms of effectiveness and doing his job.”
