Teenage girl killed and man injured in A51 crash

A teenager was killed and a man in his 20s was seriously injured after the car they were in left the road close to the Shropshire border last night.

The 18-year-old woman was confirmed dead at the scene of the crash on the A51.

The man, who had been driving the black Ford Mondeo, was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent with serious multiple injuries.

His condition was today described as critical.

Inspector Alison Dando, of Staffordshire Police, said the accident happened at about 10.05pm on the A51 between Blackbrook and Stableford.

“The collision involved a black Ford Mondeo where an 18-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene,” she said.

“The driver, who is in his early 20s was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with serious injuries and is described as critical.”

A spokeswoman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “An 18-year-old woman has died and a man in his 20s suffered serious injuries after the car they were travelling in came off the road in Staffordshire.

“West Midlands Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle, two ambulances and a doctor to the scene. Unfortunately despite the best efforts of crews, nothing could be done to save the woman who was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The man had suffered serious multiple injuries and was treated by the doctor at the scene.

“He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire by ambulance and the doctor travelled with him.”
