Society’s first surplus in 10 years

Shrewsbury’s West Mid ShowgroundThe society that organises Shrewsbury’s West Mid Show has reported a surplus for the first time in 10 years.

Chairman David Tudor today said the accounts for 2007 for the Shropshire & West Midlands Agricultural Society showed a surplus of £45,000.

The West Mid Show also made a profit with gate receipts for both days being up on the previous year, the annual report to society members has revealed.

Mr Tudor said advanced ticket sales were slightly down but show ground hire and other events throughout the season also showed a surplus despite one of the wettest summers on record.

He said: “I am delighted with the financial results for 2007.”

Mr Tudor said the society had been extremely fortunate with regard to the weather and animal disease, which had adversely affected many other events.

Looking forward to the 2008 season, Mr Tudor promised another outstanding West Mid Show on June 21 and 22.

He said: “Another exciting programme of events for the main arena had been booked for this year’s show to appeal to all ages, with pageantry, music, daring stunts and wonderful events in a two-day action packed programme.

“In addition, the 2008 West Mid Show will play host to the National Championships and 1 International - bringing visitors from all over the country.”
